BACOLOD CITY – Police arrested a couple for allegedly robbing and killing a 57-year-old Turkish national in Barangay Canlamay, Ilog, Negros Occidental on Sunday, March 22.
The victim, a resident of Barangay Cabug in this city, was found dead in a sugarcane plantation in Barangay Canlamay at 2 a.m.
Initial investigation revealed that the victim had a drinking session with a woman prior to the incident.
The victim was attacked and mauled by unidentified individuals, sustaining fatal injuries in the head, while traversing a sugarcane field.
A follow-up operation was conducted leading to the arrest of the suspects – a 34-year-old man and his 35-year-old live-in-partner, both residents of Barangay Canlamay.
The male suspect admitted to the killing and said that the crime was motivated by robbery.
He added that the attack was planned together with his live-in partner who engaged the victim in a drinking session.
Authorities recovered the victim’s prosthetic leg and clothing, car key, the suspect’s clothing, including gloves and sweatshirt, and a black T-shirt used as facial covering in the crime scene.
Police Brig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay, PRO-NIR director, commended operating units for their prompt and coordinated response to deliver justice and hold perpetrators accountable.
The suspects face robbery with homicide charges.
