The Department of Tourism (DOT) launched a unified drive for cruise tourism and secured commitments from key agencies and industry partners to strengthen coordination and raise the country’s competitiveness.
DOT OIC Secretary Verna Buensuceso led the first high-level meeting of the reconstituted Philippine Cruise Tourism Development Committee.
Discussions focused on expanding cruise infrastructure, harmonizing tourism data, utilizing cruise visa waivers, and updating the Maritime Industry Development Program.
Participants included the Department of Transportation, Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of Information and Communications Technology, Department of Public Works and Highways, Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority, Philippine Ports Authority, Maritime Industry Authority, and the Bureaus of Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine, along with private sector representatives.
Stakeholders agreed on collaborative measures to improve port operations, streamline passenger processing, and enhance the overall cruise experience, aiming to attract more international cruise traffic.
The meeting concluded with a signing ceremony, formalizing unified support for cruise tourism and reinforcing institutional mechanisms for sustained inter-agency coordination.
