CAMP MARCELO A. ADDURU, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – Two suspected cattle rustlers were arrested in a checkpoint in Barangay San Antonino, Burgos, Isabela on Saturday, March 21.
Police identified the suspects as Vin and Jay, residents of Barangay Villa Paz, Naguilian, Isabela.
Lawmen flagged down a white utility vehicle for a seatbelt violation. Police conducted an inspection and found two cattle without documents or proof of ownership.
The suspects claimed they bought the animals from a man in Barangay Barucboc, Quezon, Isabela.
The alleged seller failed to present proof of ownership and the suspects were arrested and brought to the police station along with the vehicle and cattle.
The suspects are facing charges for violating the Anti-Cattle Rustling Law of 1974.
Police Regional Office-2 Director Police Brig. Gen. Antonio P. Marallag Jr. said their arrest underscores the importance of checkpoint operations in preventing crimes that affect farmers’ livelihoods.
