The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Sunday, March 22, said the easterlies will continue to affect the entire country, bringing generally warm and humid conditions along with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms.
Based on its latest weather forecast, PAGASA said Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, particularly in the afternoon or evening.
These weather conditions are caused by easterlies—warm winds coming from the Pacific Ocean—which typically result in increased humidity and localized thunderstorms.
While most areas will experience fair weather, PAGASA warned that severe thunderstorms may trigger flash floods or landslides, especially in vulnerable areas.
Moreover, PAGASA’s weekly outlook showed that the easterlies will dominate nationwide weather until March 27.
From Sunday to Monday, March 21 to 23, PAGASA said easterlies are expected to prevail across the country, bringing warmer-than-usual temperatures, generally fair to partly cloudy skies, and isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, especially in eastern sections.
By Tuesday to Wednesday, March 24 to 25, PAGASA said more active weather conditions are expected in parts of Eastern Visayas and Mindanao.
The affected areas include Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Davao Oriental.
PAGASA noted that these provinces may experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms, while the rest of the country will continue to have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with brief rain showers, mostly in the afternoon or evening.
Meanwhile, PAGASA said generally fair weather is expected across the Philippines from Thursday to Friday, March 26 to 27.
PAGASA added that the generally fair weather nationwide is due to the continued influence of the easterlies.
However, localized thunderstorms may still occur in Southern Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao, likely during the late afternoon or evening.
