I remember using an HP printer, as a high school student in the early 2000s (age reveal), often reading the “Hewlett-Packard” name whenever I came across it in my room. So, finding myself sitting across from Michael Boyle, the Senior Vice President and Managing Director for Greater Asia for HP, was a bit surreal.
The discussion kicked off with HP’s growth strategy for Greater Asia and how the Philippines has remained a high-growth market with strong interest in AI integration into its workflows. HP’s portfolio focuses on OneHP, a collaboration of its PC and print products, and, with the increasing presence of AI, this has become an added layer to the OneHP approach. HP focuses on integrating its devices, security, and services to help enterprises adopt AI securely.
“If you think about the workforce as we sit today, we do a lot of managing things, and we look forward in terms of how we augment humans to actually be turbocharged by what AI brings underneath that,” Boyle said.
“If I look more closely at the Philippines, I think the Philippines is a fast adoption market,” Boyle added. “There are specific industry verticals that we see in the Philippines where HP has an opportunity. There is a connection and accessibility to the brand, whether or not it’s from the home, a student, or the technical industries using our products. We see the Philippines as a key market in that regard,” Boyle said.
Keeping continuity and adding AI in the workflow
Late in the last quarter of 2025, RAM and storage prices increased, and HP is focused on ensuring supply for its partners and customers.
“One of the things that we’ve been working very hard on in the last few years is our supply chain resiliency,” Boyle assured. “We have a number of different manufacturing locations, a lot of them are centered around Southeast Asia, and we see that’s got us well-equipped into the future,” he continued.
“There is interest in AI, and consumers see the benefits of Copilot. Our focus is on the future of work and on the adoption of AI in workflows. And I think that we will start to see more AI efficiencies this year, until the next,” Boyle said.
Part of that AI workflow covers the creation of documents, their printing and scanning, and how consumers actually manage these documents.
HP is looking at it from an end-to-end process.
“We’re not only looking at the device, but the entire ecosystem around AI and how HP can make that better in the future,” Boyle said.
On security and the cloud
Data security has become important to consumers on all levels, and data in the cloud does present a risk, Boy admits. “What we will see will be institutions running their own AI applications, giving them more security. This quarantines data from reaching the global cloud,” Boyle predicts.
Keeping secure data locally also ensures it is readily accessible, which is important, especially in the defense and health sectors. This approach ensures that your data is secured and can be easily accessed.
AI and print
So, how does AI come into play in printing? “The printing is the easy bit, AI is actually speeding up the design, the creativity, and the output component,” Boyle shared. HP is an output provider for Canva, so when you print, it goes through an HP print network locally.
Another example is digitizing old blueprints, which can be for construction or for preserving information and history. “We take a physical plan and convert it into a vectorized drawing (with AI), and this saves a lot of time in technical CAD-style environments,” Boyle shared.
“It’s very exciting, the opportunities that are emerging out of these ecosystems that are being built,” Boyle said. And he’s not wrong, from large printers that only used to print your homework and assignments for school, to sleeker and more complex printers today, printing a large array of products from photos, to cards, postcards, maps, and plans, the possibilities are endless.
