Chappell Roan says sorry — but don't mess with her boundaries
Grammy-winning artist Chappell Roan issued an apology to Jude Law's daughter after her security team was accused of reducing the young fan to tears during a hotel encounter.
On Instagram Stories, Chappell said, "I'm gonna tell my half of the story of what happened today with a mother and child who were involved with a security guard who is not my personal security.
"I didn't even see. I didn't even see a woman and a child. No one came up to me, no one bothered me. I was just sitting at breakfast at my hotel. I think these people were staying at the hotel as well. So the fact that a security guard who is.
'I did not ask the security guard to go up and talk to this mother and child. I did not. They did not come up to me. I did not do anything. It's unfair for security to just assume someone doesn't have good intentions when they have no reason to believe that, and when no action is taken," Chappell said, according to a report by The Daily Mail.
The incident originated with Jorginho, a former Chelsea and Arsenal midfielder now married to Catherine Harding, who took to Instagram to allege that his wife's daughter — whom she shares with ex Jude Law — was confronted by the singer's bodyguard after the 11-year-old noticed Roan at the same hotel.
In his post, Jorginho sharply criticized Roan over the security guard's treatment of the child, believed to be Ada Law.
Before her apology, Chappell addressed the issue on social media with an official statement. Her full post:
"I have seen the recent backlash, and I have been receiving a lot of messages about the situation.
"I want to start by saying that I have always been very clear about my boundaries. When I am on stage, performing, in drag, at a work event, or doing press, I am working. Outside of that, I am not in work mode. I am a person, and I am allowed to exist privately.
"I just woke up. I deserve my space, especially in moments like breakfast. I don't play about my. breakfast.
"This does not take away from the gratitude and love I have for my supporters. I appreciate the people who respect boundaries and understand that admiration does not equal access.
"Respectfully, please understand that boundaries are not personal; they are necessary."
At 28, Roan has taken the music world by storm with chart-topping tracks including Hot to Go!, Good Luck, Babe!, The Giver, and The Subway. Her meteoric rise was cemented in 2025 when she took home the Grammy Award for Best New Artist.
