ILOILO CITY—Four people were killed and two were injured in a stabbing incident involving two families in La Paz District here on Saturday night, March 21.
Police identified the fatalities as 46-year-old Joeven Provido, 40-year-old Johnny Provido Jr., 68-year-old Johnny Provido Sr., and 33-year-old Tyrone Muya. Tyrone’s brothers Gilbert Jr. and Glenbert were injured.
The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) is still determining if the incident in Barangay San Isidro was over an alleged shabu transaction worth P1,500.
The Provido brothers went to the Muya household looking for an alias Badoy, the live-in partner of a Muya sister who allegedly never delivered shabu that they paid for.
The Provido brothers could not find Badoy and left. But they returned to the Muya household later that night and a verbal argument erupted between the Provido brothers and Tyrone who was sitting outside the Muya house.
No one saw who stabbed who but Gilbert and Glenbert Muya went outside the house after hearing a commotion. The fight escalated and Johnny Sr. went to the Muya household to break up the fight but he was fatally stabbed.
ICPO Director Police Col. Wilbert B. Parilla said they will look into the veracity of the illegal drugs trade as a motive.
We strongly condemn this senseless act of violence that resulted in the loss of lives. I have directed all concerned units to conduct a thorough and in-depth investigation to establish the full circumstances of this incident and ensure that all responsible individuals will be held accountable before the law, Parilla said in a statement on Sunday, March 22.
