IT'S THE SMALL THINGS
March here in the Philippines is oftentimes when most of graduations in schools following the local calendar take place. Whether it is moving up from Kindergarten, elementary, middle or high school, every graduation ceremony marks the end of what was, and the start of what is to come. It ushers in a new chapter; a new era, if you will, in the life of someone.
Time is the only constant in this world, and time is fleeting. Now that I am a mother of a toddler, I know the importance of relishing every stage, and reveling in the moment.
We are at that point where everyday is a new day, and every month reveals a new milestone. How great it is too to be able to see the world, and all its familiarities from the eyes of a child – you see it from a whole new perspective.
March is also the month where women are celebrated, and their accomplishments, contributions to society and importance is highlighted. This month also celebrates St. Patrick’s Day globally with clovers and green everywhere which recognizes St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland who brought Christianity to the world.
Eid’l Fitr is also this month – an annual holiday where our Muslim brothers and sisters celebrate the end of Ramadan.
When I was writing this piece up, I decided to randomly look up what else is celebrated this month of March, and much to my surprise, there are very notable causes advocated for that I was unaware of. For instance, March 20th is International Day of Happiness as recognized by the United Nations.
March 21st is World Poetry Day and International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. The 22nd is World Water Day that calls awareness to water sustainability worldwide.
March is most definitely a month that does not only celebrate milestones and holidays, but one that advocates for, and brings awareness to worthwhile causes worldwide.
The end of March also marks the end of the first quarter of 2026. Where did that go?
