LTO-6 orders driver to explain Kalibo crash

ILOILO CITY – The Land Transportation Office-6 has officially issued a show-cause order (SCO) against the driver of a Suzuki van for hitting and injuring a student who was crossing a pedestrian lane in front of Estancia Elementary School on Osmeña Ave. in Kalibo, Aklan earlier this month.

“A pedestrian lane in front of a school is a clear signal to slow down and protect our children. We will not tolerate such blatant disregard for human life and traffic laws. The driver must explain why their privilege to drive should not be permanently revoked,” said LTO-6 Regional Director Atty. Gaudioso P. Geduspan II.

Closed circuit television footage of the incident showed that the driver failed to stop and ran over the student who sustained major injuries.

The driver’s action may be a violation of Republic Act No. 4136 or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code.
