Distribution of DSWD cash aid for TNVS and other PUV drivers starts March 24
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will begin distributing ₱5,000 each in cash relief assistance (CRA) to transport network vehicle service (TNVS) drivers in Metro Manila on March 24, with other public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers set to receive aid in the following days.
The payout is part of the government’s effort to assist drivers affected by rising fuel prices.
“This coming Tuesday (March 24), the distribution of CRA for our TNVS drivers in Metro Manila will begin. The goal is to provide immediate help to drivers who continue to be affected by the oil price hike,” DSWD Assistant Secretary and spokesperson Irene Dumlao said.
The DSWD said that as of March 20, more than 34,000 TNVS drivers in the National Capital Region are expected to receive assistance next week.
Also set to benefit are around 20,000 jeepney drivers, 83,000 delivery riders, and 34,000 motorcycle taxi riders.
Dumlao said the payout will be rolled out in phases, with TNVS drivers scheduled on Tuesday, followed by jeepney drivers on Wednesday (March 25), delivery riders on Thursday and Friday (March 26-27), and motorcycle taxi riders on Saturday (March 28).
President Marcos Jr. has directed the DSWD to provide financial assistance to PUV drivers, who are among the sectors most affected by continued increases in fuel prices linked to tensions in the Middle East.
The agency said it is coordinating with the Department of Transportation and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board to extend assistance to drivers in other regions.
Earlier, more than 90,000 tricycle drivers in Metro Manila received P5,000 each during the initial rollout of the program.
The CRA is implemented under the DSWD’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation or AICS program, which provides short-term financial aid to individuals and families affected by emergencies and economic shocks.
