CEBU CITY – Pushing for strengthened collaboration and mutual development, the city governments of Danao and San Juan formally sealed a sisterhood agreement on Friday, March 20.
Danao Mayor Ramon “Nito” Durano and San Juan Mayor Francisco Javier Zamora led the ceremonial signing of the agreement at the Danao City Hall.
Danao Vice Mayor Ivy Durano and members of the city council were on hand as well as San Juan City Councilors Ervic Vijandre and James Yap for the historic engagement.
The agreement aims to establish a framework for cooperation between the two cities, promote the exchange of knowledge, resources, and best practices to enhance governance, and support inclusive growth.
With the pact, both cities agreed to commit to collaborate in key areas such as tourism, trade and industry, science and technology, culture and arts, urban planning and development, education, sports development, environmental protection, public health, and social services.
Mayor Durano emphasized that the sisterhood agreement reflects the direction of his administration towards stronger linkages and expanded opportunities.
“At the start of this term, I launched our five-point connectivity agenda, which includes widening our city’s network both abroad and at home. We are hopeful that this partnership between the City of Danao and the City of San Juan will bear fruit for the mutual benefit of our people and for the continuing development of both our cities,” he said.
During the activity, Vice Mayor Durano presented the city’s tourism initiatives. She emphasized the city’s vision of becoming a premier destination for sustainable, community-based, and experience-driven tourism, supported by strong governance and policy frameworks.
Zamora welcomed the signing of the agreement, emphasizing that it gives the two cities an opportunity to share best practices and learn from one another.
He was impressed with Danao’s tourism potential and assured that his administration will support and help promote Danao as a growing tourist destination.
