BACOLOD CITY – A female tricycle driver and her passenger figured in a heated altercation that escalated into a physical fight over a fare in a public market in Barangay 1, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental on Friday, March 20.
Police Lt. Nolly Gudaca, deputy chief of the Kabankalan City Police Station, said the female passenger flagged down the tricycle for a ride to the market.
Upon arrival, the female driver asked the passenger to add P5 to the existing fare of P12, which the passenger questioned and refused.
A heated altercation erupted that turned physical until authorities intervened. They were taken to the police station where the issue was settled amicably. No formal complaint was filed.
Despite the settlement, Gudaca noted that the driver could face an offense for unjust payment which falls under the jurisdiction of the Traffic Department.
Authorities believe the incident may be linked to growing tensions over rising fuel prices due to instability in the Middle East.
Meanwhile, Vallacar Transit Inc. (VTI) is maintaining existing fares following the suspension of the fare increase by President Marcos.
The company planned fare adjustments due to rising fuel costs due to the Middle East crisis but confirmed no increase has been implemented as of March 19.
The VTI reiterated their commitment to providing safe, reliable, and comfortable transportation services.
