President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. (PCO)
President Marcos on Friday, March 20, assured Filipinos that the country's food supply is enough as the world grapples with uncertainties from developments in the Middle East.
Marcos said there "is nothing to worry" about the country's food supplies as the government is also continuously monitoring them.
"Ang food supply natin ay sapat kahit na pangmatagalan (Our food supply is enough even for long term)," he said in a statement following his visit to a food company in Laguna.
The President said he also asked the private sector not to increase their prices for as long as they can as Filipinos are now already reeling from the impact of massive oil price hike, which has now almost doubled since the US and Israel's joint attack on Iran less than a month ago.
"Sila naman ay pumapayag na to keep the prices na hindi muna – basta – hindi tataas ang presyo hanggat kaya nila (They agreed to keep the prices and not to increase it as long as they can)," the President said.
Marcos said prices of food might not move for up to two months.
"Kahit na dumating na tayo ay patuloy naman natin tinitingnan ang supply (And even if we come to that, we continuously monitor our supply)," he added.
A day prior, the Philippine peso hit a record-low against the dollar while oil price is expected to reach at least P100/liter in the coming days, raising fear of inflation.
