Manila LGU eyes expansion of 'Yormilk' program to 60,000 students
Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso announced the expansion of his administration's “Yormilk: Kaagapay ng Batang Maynila sa Paglaki” program aimed at curbing malnutrition and fostering the growth of children enrolled in public day care centers across the city.
Domagoso made the statement together with Vice Mayor Chi Atienza on Wednesday, March 18, during the Child’s Appreciation Day held at San Andres Sports Complex, where a total of 909 daycare and preschool achievers from different Child Development Centers (CDCs) in Manila were given recognition during the event.
According to the mayor, the city government will be expanding the Yormilk initiative to over 60,000 learners by the month of June.
Under the Yormilk program, the students will receive milk three times a week for 90 days, with distribution carried out through CDCs in 436 barangays, supported by 423 child development workers, based on official Manila Department of Social Welfare (MDSW) records.
He also vowed the continuous implementation of city programs aimed at creating decent and comfortable facilities for public school students.
"Ang aking goal, ang pangarap ko—iyong natikman ng anak ko dapat matikman din ng mga anak ninyo sa loob ng pampublikong paaralan (My goal, my dream is that whatever my child experienced should be what your children experience in public schools as well)," Domagoso stressed.
"Sa mga nanay at tatay, keep it up, go on. Habang naglalakbay kayo sa pagsubok ng buhay, huwag na kayo tumingin sa likod, nasa gedli ninyo lang ako kasabay sa paglalakbay ninyo. Sabay-sabay tayong iraraos ang inyong mga anak sa magandang bukas na kanilang kahaharapin (To all mothers and fathers, please keep it up and continue to go on. As you journey through the trials of life, don't look back, as I am always by your side on your journey. Together, we will lead your children to the bright future they will face)," he noted.
