CRATES of alleged illegally-refilled butane canisters are seized in a police raid in Bogo City, Cebu. (CIDG-7)
CEBU CITY – A 49-year-old man accused of illegally selling liquefied petroleum gas-filled canisters was arrested in Barangay Don Pedro Rodriguez in Bogo City, northern Cebu.
Ramil Huyo-a Edano was nabbed by agents of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Central Visayas Mandaue City Field Unit past 3 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18.
The arrest was made after Edano’s house, which was allegedly used as a warehouse for butane canisters, was raided on the strength of a search warrant issued by Presidng Judge Samson Troy Layese of Regional Trial Court Branch 78 in Bogo.
Seized during the raid were 151 crates each containing 24 butane canisters worth P269,000.
Police said the operation stemmed from reports that illegally-refiled butane canisters were being sold in the area.
Police said Edano was arrested when he failed to present documents issued by the Department of Energy proving that the sale of the butane canisters was legal.
Edano will be charged for violating Section 168 of the Republic Act 8293 or the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines.
