DAGUPAN CITY – The city government has cancelled the Gilon Gilon ed Dalan parade and street dancing competition during the Bangus Festival this year due to the ongoing overseas conflict.
“The Bangus Festival is more than a parade—it reflects our unity, courage, and pride. Even without Gilon Gilon, Dagupan remains strong and vibrant as the Bangus Capital of the Philippines,” Mayor Belen Fernandez said.
But other festival highlights such as the Bangusan street party, Bangus Rodeo, and Bangusine will still be held to keep the city lively and festive.
Funds originally set aside for the parade will now support programs directly benefiting residents.
“The drums of Gilon Gilon will resound again in the future,” Fernandez said. “For now, our focus is the welfare of every family. Dagupan’s pride and culture as the Bangus Capital of the Philippines remain stronger than ever.”
Commuters laud fare rollback
Commuters travelling between Pangasinan and Pasay City welcomed the rollback of provincial bus fares.
Passengers said this will ease daily expenses for workers, students, and families who frequently travel between the province and Metro Manila.
The rollback was implemented following a directive from President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to suspend the fare increase for the public welfare.
Several bus companies, including Five Star Bus, adjusted their fares in compliance with the order. Regular and discounted fares reverted to P503 and P402, respectively, from P568 and P462.
