A Second Chance: Mayor Isko gives job to viral 'Wiper Boy' in Manila LGU
Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso has given the viral "Wiper Boy" of Manila a second chance at life by providing him with a job in the city government, proving that it is equally important for public servants to be human as well despite them being given the mandate to exact justice against wrongdoers.
Domagoso made the statement on Thursday, March 19, as he presented Eden Boy Cunanan, aka "Wiper Boy," to the public following his arrest for scratching the car of a motorist who refused to give him money for wiping the victim's vehicle along Abad Santos Avenue in Tondo.
Cunanan was immediately arrested by the Manila Police District's (MPD) Traffic Enforcement Unit later that day after the incident was posted on social media.
"Hindi makatuwiran na mamerwisyo tayo ng kapwa (It is not right for us to bring harm or inconvenience to others)," Domagoso said, telling the suspect to apologize to the victim for what he had done.
He added that he will leave the decision to the victim if she will continue to file charges against the suspect.
Despite what he had done, the mayor ordered Department of Environment and Public Services (DEPS) Director Kenneth Amurao to provide a job for Cunanan as a street sweeper so as to prevent him from returning to his old ways.
"Inuunawa kita dahil baka lalo ka pang matulak sa kasadlakan kung iiwasan ka ng lipunan dahil sa iyong nakaraan. Ngayon, magtatrabaho ka sa gobyerno (I understand you because you might be pushed further into poverty if society shuns you because of your past. Now, you will work for the government)," Domagoso said.
