Adjourning its session on Wednesday, March 19, among notable accomplishments during the first three months of the year, the Senate passed key measures expanding care for individuals with autism spectrum disorder, strengthening consumer protections, and granting greater flexibility to the Department of Education in implementing its curriculum, signaling a strong focus on public health and social support.
Senators also advanced democratic processes and international cooperation by approving resolutions to reset Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) elections and ratifying a treaty with the United Kingdom on the transfer of sentenced persons, underscoring the chamber’s role in both domestic governance and international agreements.
In terms of efforts to modernize government, the Senate approved the dissolution of the Optical Media Board, transferring its regulatory functions to the Intellectual Property Office, aligning oversight with current technological developments.
The chamber also strengthened agriculture and food security through the passage of the Congressional Commission on Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food Security (AGRICOM) Act, which aims to streamline programs across agricultural agencies and bolster support for Filipino farmers and fisherfolk.
During the same period, the Senate also approved several measures aimed at strengthening public accountability, education, and social recognition.
These include the Philippine Veterans' Month Act, which institutionalizes nationwide recognition of the heroism and contributions of Filipino veterans; the Law Enforcement Body-Worn Camera Act, which promotes transparency and accountability in police operations through the use of body-worn cameras; the Free Overseas Filipino Workers’ Financial Education Act, which provides accessible financial literacy programs to help overseas Filipino workers better manage their earnings and plan for long-term financial security; and the Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas School Act, which strengthens support for schools located in remote and underserved communities.
The Senate is scheduled to resume regular plenary sessions on Monday, May 4, 2026.
