QC gov't deploys traffic teams, expands free ride services due to transport strike
(Quezon City government)
The Quezon City government intensified traffic management and commuter assistance efforts on Thursday, March 19, as a transport strike disrupted public transportation in parts of Metro Manila.
Personnel from the Quezon City Traffic and Transport Management Department (TTMD) were stationed at a command post set up in front of the National Housing Authority to monitor the situation and coordinate response measures.
Traffic enforcers from TTMD, the Quezon City Police District, and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MDA) were also deployed to key rally points across the city.
In response to the disruption, the city government continued its “Libreng Sakay” program, offering free rides to affected passengers.
Buses under the QCity Bus system were made available to the public until 8 p.m., while e-trikes from the Department of Public Order and Safety (DPOS) and vehicles from all 142 barangays were placed on standby to assist residents as needed.
Police officers also provided free transportation to stranded passengers in the Philcoa area, helping ease the burden on commuters.
