DAVAO CITY – The local government unit of Mawab in Davao de Oro recently distributed cash gifts to a centenarian, 32 octogenarians, and a lone nonagenarian in recognition of their longevity and invaluable contributions to the community.
Mawab Mayor Myrill Apit, along with representatives from the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC), handed P100,000 to 101-year old Silveriano Sebastian.
Lone nonagenarian Delfina Yungco and 32 octogenarians received P10,000 each.
The 32 octogenarians were Lolito Abalos, Jovenita Abo-abo, Arturo Acido, Ofelia Baddao, Norma Baitan, Lydia Barreza, Rogelio Colita, Rufina Elizan, Silverio Enecito, Leona Humol, Remegio Husain, Nenita Jancinal, Rogelio Jao, Belleza Jimenez, Cerelina Jose, Balbena Jubahib;
Loreto Mariamonte, Lily Nugal, Editha Ondagan, Basilisa Onod, Remedios Palaruan, Ernesto Paradillo, Milagros Patrimonio, Dominga Pilongo, Lolita Punayan, Bebiana Quilapio, Fernando Quilapio, Norma Razonable, Carmen Romano, Feliciana Savellano, Aurelia Tapao, and Ernane Valdez.
The distribution of cash gifts was conducted in partnership with the NCSC under the Expanded Centenarians Act of 2024 (Republic Act 11982), the local government said in a statement.
“Our elderly are the pillars of our community. Their wisdom, sacrifices, and life experiences have guided the progress we enjoy today. Through this program, we reaffirm that we value and remember their contributions to Mawab,” Apit said.
She said that the incentive program covers senior citizens who reach the milestone ages of 80, 85, 90, 95, and 100.
The local government urged eligible senior citizens to visit the Municipal Social Welfare and Development (MSWD) Office at the municipal hall to file their application and avail of benefits.
Apit said that the program is not only a form of financial assistance but also a meaningful expression of gratitude and respect for senior citizens who continue to inspire future generations.
