The Malabon city government on Thursday, March 19, provided free rides for the commuters affected by the nationwide transport strike.
The city government deployed nine “Libreng Sakay” vehicles across key areas to help ferry stranded passengers and ease disruptions in public transport.
The vehicles were strategically assigned to routes where commuters were expected to be most affected.
Mayor Jeannie Sandoval assured residents that measures were in place to minimize inconvenience.
“Sa kabila ng napapabalitang tigil-pasada, ang Pamahalaang Lungsod ay nakahanda upang hindi maapektuhan ang ating mga kababayang commuters. Nakaantabay ang ating mga Libreng Sakay vehicles upang makatulong sa kaayusan ng daloy ng trapiko at sa kaginhawaan ng mga manlalakbay. Prayoridad natin ang kapakanan ng ating mga mamamayan kaya’t narito tayo upang masigurong makararating sila nang ligtas sa kanilang mga paroroonan (“Despite the reported transport strike, the City Government is prepared to ensure that our fellow commuters are not affected. Our Free Ride vehicles are on standby to help regulate traffic flow and ensure the comfort of travelers. The welfare of our citizens is our priority, so we are here to ensure that they arrive safely at their destinations,” Mayor Jeannie Sandoval said.
The Public Safety and Traffic Management Office (PSTMO) led the operation, working alongside multiple city departments to mobilize available vehicles.
These included units from the General Services Department and the Malabon Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, as well as a tow truck to assist in clearing road obstructions.
To maintain order on the streets, personnel from the PSTMO, local police, fire units, and the Mayor’s Complaint and Action Team were deployed along major thoroughfares. m
Barangay officials were also instructed to monitor conditions in their respective areas and to activate additional transport support when needed.
Despite the transport strike, the Malabon Jeepney Transport Service Cooperative committed to continue operating, providing an alternative for commuters who still rely on regular public utility vehicles.
Authorities likewise warned transport operators against taking advantage of stranded passengers, reminding them to avoid overcharging fares during the disruption.
Residents were encouraged to stay updated and report emergencies through the Malabon All Hazards One Network (AHON) Alert 24/7 app, which enables real-time coordination with response teams.
