LTFRB urges beneficiaries to update, avail of e-wallet platform for fuel subsidy distribution

Regional directors of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) were instructed to facilitate the updating and submission of e-wallet data of all beneficiaries in the fuel subsidy program of the national government amid the effects of the Middle East tensions in the price of petroleum products.
The LTFRB earlier invited Electronic Money Issuers (EMIs) like GCash and PayMaya to serve as Payment Channel Providers for the efficient, secure, and transparent distribution of fuel subsidy assistance to program beneficiaries.
LTFRB chairman Vigor D. Mendoza II said the move is intended to ensure a fast and comfortable distribution of P5,000 cash assistance to drivers and operators of public utility vehicles (PUVs).
“We always wanted to provide the best service as instructed by the President and Secretary Banoy and on our part, the distribution through e-wallets is the best way to do it,” said Mendoza.
But for those who have either no means to have an e-wallet or are not comfortable with such a e-wallet distribution mode, Mendoza said beneficiaries could go to the scheduled distribution venues that will be determined by the local government units (LGUs) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
He, however, explained that the use of e-wallets is the fastest and most comfortable way of receiving the fuel subsidy since beneficiaries would no longer need to fall into long queues at distribution venues.
The LTFRB is currently undertaking preparatory activities for the implementation of the Fuel Subsidy Program intended to provide financial assistance to qualified public transport operators and drivers nationwide amid the serious effects of the Middle East tensions.
The distribution of the fuel subsidy already kicked off on Tuesday in Metro Manila, involving tricycle drivers.
Mendoza said he also instructed all Regional Directors to strengthen coordination with the LGUs and the DSWD to facilitate the distribution process.
