Bacolod City lone district Rep. Albee Benitez has vowed not to let House Speaker Faustino "Bojie" Dy III down in his new role as deputy speaker.
"I sincerely thank Speaker Faustino 'Bojie' Dy III for his trust in my ability and passion to serve," Benitez said in a Facebook post Thursday, March 19, a day after he was installed as deputy speaker through plenary action.
"I also assure Speaker Dy that I will use my experience and knowledge to help strengthen cooperation among our colleagues and contribute to restoring public trust in the House as a true House of the People—one that listens, acts, and delivers for our kababayan," he said.
Benitez, leader of the Visayan bloc in the 300-plus strong chamber, was elected deputy speaker during plenary session Wednesday, March 18, along with Pangasinan 3rd district Rep. Maria Rachel Arenas and Cebu 5th district Rep. Duke Frasco.
"Visayans can rest assured that I will do my utmost to make the House of Representatives a strong and reliable partner in our shared aspirations for inclusive and sustained progress," Benitez said.
Referring to the deputy speakership, Benitez said: "I view this role as both a mandate and an opportunity: a mandate to continue delivering for Bacolod, and an opportunity to contribute more meaningfully to nation-building".
"As I serve in this expanded capacity, I remain firmly committed to ensuring that the needs of Bacolodnons are addressed, while helping shape policies that uplift communities across the Visayas and the entire country," he underscored.
In a separate post, Benitez said he was "grateful for the trust and opportunity to take on greater responsibility".
"I remain committed to serving Bacolodnons and working for the progress of our communities," he further said.
