Hannah Mari Castillo: The youngest national pageant director in the country is just getting started
Hannah Mari Paragas Castillo was not like most girls her age.
At 17, while many of her classmates were planning weekend trips and what to wear to school, Hannah was already thinking bigger. Much bigger.
She had walked runways in faraway places. She had stood under bright lights in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand. She had felt the nerves, the excitement, and the joy of doing something she loved in countries she had only once dreamed of visiting.
"It was exciting to work with fellow models abroad. I get to meet other people and experience different cultures. I also got to socialize with them. I am a really shy person, but I got to open up with them and learned their values," said Hannah during an interview in Araneta City recently.
She added, "I want them to know that modeling is not only about being beautiful and tall. I want to encourage them to be themselves and embrace their flaws. And don't let anyone affect themselves."
The girl who stood before cameras and crowds was, deep inside, a quiet soul. Yet every time she stepped into a new room, a new city, a new country, she chose to open up. She chose to listen. She chose to learn. And slowly, the world made her brave.
Hannah believed that beauty was not just about how you looked. It was about who you were. She wanted every young girl watching her to know that her flaws are not her weaknesses. They are your story. They are what make you real.
And then came the news that would change everything. On March 22, Hannah would turn 18. And with that, the birthday would come something extraordinary. She was set to become the National Director of Miss Teen Tourism Heritage Philippines, making her the youngest pageant national director in the country.
Most people her age were just beginning to figure out who they were. Hannah was already stepping into a role that would shape others' dreams.
It would not be easy. She knew that. The turnover of responsibilities was set for December, and there was so much work ahead. She would need to promote the pageant, lead with grace, and carry the title with purpose.
But Hannah had already proven one thing to the world. She never let anything stop her.
Hannah’s passport tells its own story. She has walked the streets of the United States, Norway, Germany, and across Asia — each trip adding a new chapter to a life already full of them. And in 2027, she plans to take her biggest leap yet, heading to the US to study.
Not the pressure of school, which she always made sure came first, no matter how busy her schedule got. Not the weight of being an only child with parents watching her every step, proud beyond words. "I never let modelling gigs affect my studies. I could catch up with my studies."
Her parents, Jocelyn and Paul, said Hannah is an only child. Even though she had no siblings, Hannah grew up to be a diligent daughter, according to her father. She kept going. She kept growing.
Because Hannah did not wait to be ready. She became ready. One runway, one country, one brave step at a time. And on the day she turned 18, the world would see what her family always knew. She was just getting started.
