GENERAL NAKAR, Quezon – A newborn baby boy was found dead on a river here on Wednesday morning, March 18.
Police said two children looking for spiders discovered the baby and sought help from authorities.
The baby was taken to the health center where he was declared dead.
A midwife assessed the baby and estimated him to be approximately 24- to 72-hours-old due to the presence of vernix caseosa.
It is a white, creamy, cheese-like biofilm covering a newborn’s skin and acts as a protective barrier against amniotic fluid, provides antibacterial protection, and serves as a natural moisturizer.
Police are conducting follow-up investigation and going around this city to identify his mother.
