DAVAO CITY – Six outstanding people were recognized during the 54th Datu Bago Awards on Wednesday evening, March 18, at The Royal Mandaya Hotel, as part of the 89th Araw ng Dabaw celebration.
The Datu Bago Award is Davao City's highest honor given to outstanding individuals who have made major contributions to the city's growth, progress, and cultural heritage.
Vice President Sara Duterte, special guest, recognized this year's awardees for their contributions to the city's development and progress.
She emphasized the award's importance and described it as a tribute to Davaoeños whose contributions have helped define the city's identity and direction.
Duterte awarded individuals who helped advance the city and protect traditions, and thanked them for their service and commitment to the community.
Awardees were Eduardo Bangayan for promoting sustainable growth and excellence in public service; Gene C. Bangayan for advancing Davao's international tourism profile; Maria Cristina Floirendo Brias for her work in strengthening micro, small, and medium enterprises and inclusive community development;
Alex V. Buenaventura for initiatives in inclusive finance and rural economic progress; Manuel M. Orig for contributions to energy security and civic leadership; and Welehito N. Pepito for his role in shaping Davao's creative sector.
The event brought together previous awardees, except former President Rodrigo Duterte. They read citations underscoring the tradition of excellence associated with the honor.
The Vice President concluded the event by calling on the people of Davao to remain united in supporting the city and continue fostering a strong sense of patriotism.
