There's no such thing as "one million percent", mathematically speaking.
Bicol Saro Party-list Rep. Terry Ridon gave this retort to Navotas City lone district Rep. Toby Tiangco on Wednesday afternoon, March 18, a day after the latter gave high praise to Vice President Sara Duterte on the matter of accountability.
“First of all, one million percent is something that does not exist in math. But secondly, I think that question is best coursed through the Vice President herself on accountability. Most particularly because she has pronounced herself to be running for 2028,” Ridon said.
Tiangco--a member of the majority bloc who appeared to be on the outs with the Marcos administration--said of the Vice President: "Si Sara, one million percent hindi nila mag-areglo. So kung ikaw yung merong kasalanan, gusto ko bang manalo yung one million percent hindi mo mag-areglo?"
(I'm one million percent sure, they can't make arrangements with Sara. So if you've committed a wrongdoing, would you want this person, whom one million percent you can't make arrangements with, to win?)
Tiangco prefaced his remarks with a claim that his House colleagues who were linked to the flood control projects wanted the Vice President impeached.
Ridon is a member of the House Committee on Justice, which is overseeing the impeachment proceedings against the second highest official of the land.
Pointing to her impeachment case, the lawyer-legislator noted that it's Duterte who should be subjected to accountability.
"So itong (these) questions and accountability mechanisms is something that should be squarely asked of her kasi (because) that is something that should be a pillar of any presidential candidate, hindi ba? (right?)” he added.
He stressed that issues raised in the impeachment complaints — including the alleged misuse of confidential funds, the alleged death threats against the President, and questions on wealth disclosures — remained relevant.
“The fact remains that an impeachable officer needs to explain questions relating to confidential funds, questions relating to death against the President, and questions relating to unexplained wealth and the SALN (statement of assets, liabilities, and net worth). Actually, these are very relevant to questions on any person that would want to seek the presidency in 2028. So I think these should be a matter that should be resolved today, and not to be resolved at any future time,” Ridon said.
Duterte earlier announced her plans of vying for the presidency in the 2028 elections.
'Unfair'
As for Tiangco's claim that solons who were backing the Vice President's impeachment were only doing so for reaaons of self-preservation, Ridon said it was "unfair" for the Navotas congressman to make such assertions.
At any rate, Ridon says Tiangco should just name the solons who are allegedly acting out of personal interests
"So tingin ko hindi dapat pagbanggain ni Cong. Tiangco ito and ultimately dapat magpangalan siya dahil unfair ito doon sa mga — tingin ko hindi naman napangalanan sa kahit anong dokumento na nag-support na impeachment. Yan ba ang mga tao ang binabanggit ni Cong. Tiangco na supportive of the impeachment just because they want to go scot-free during a Sara Duterte presidency? That, I think, would be very unfair to them,” the party-list solon said.
(So I think Cong. Tiangco should not pit this against each other, and ultimately he should name names because it is unfair to those who—I believe—were not identified in any document supporting the impeachment. Are these the people Cong. Tiangco is referring to as supportive of the impeachment just because they want to go scot-free during a Sara Duterte presidency? That, I think, would be very unfair to them.)
