Far Eastern University regained its winning form and drubbed University of the East, 25-11, 25-15, 25-22, to seize solo third in the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday, March 18.
Still reeling from a three-set loss to the University of Santo Tomas Tigresses last weekend, the Lady Tamaraws imposed their will right away behind the efforts of Faida Bakanke, Jaz Ellarina and Melody Pons to notch their fifth win in eight games.
It was an impressive win for FEU, which was playing without one of its key players Gerz Petallo after an apparent right shoulder injury.
The triumph also dealt UE its eighth straight defeat this season and 22nd consecutive loss since the first round of Season 87.
Bakanke spearheaded the Lady Tamaraws with 14 points off 12 attacks and two blocks, while Ellarina and Pons chipped in 11 and nine points, respectively.
Ubaldo posted 14 excellent sets on top of three points, and two digs. Lovely Lopez and Cla Loresco combined for 13 points for FEU.
Khy Cepada mustered all her energy to lead UE to Promised Land, scoring 15 points, 10 digs and seven receptions, but her efforts went futile.
FEU goes for its second straight when it meets defending champion National University this Sunday, March 23, at the Big Dome, where the slumping UE also seeks its breakthrough win against University of the Philippines.
