The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), in partnership with ChildFund Philippines, provided emergency cash-for-work support to 200 Zamboanga del Norte residents while integrating livelihood assistance with child protection and climate resilience programs.
The initiative is implemented under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) Program through the CLIMATE CARE Project.
It is carried out with the support of the Xavier Agricultural Extension Service Foundation Inc. (XAESFI).
Participants from the municipalities of Gutalac and Leon B. Postigo received temporary employment while attending sessions on child protection, gender equality, inclusion, disaster risk reduction, and climate action.
They also took part in community activities such as environmental clean-ups, waste management, and awareness campaigns.
The program combines financial assistance with knowledge and community engagement, helping beneficiaries meet immediate needs while contributing to safer, more inclusive, and climate-resilient communities for children.
Women participants said the initiative strengthened their ability to provide for their families while boosting confidence, leadership, and participation in local decision-making.
“Through the trainings, we gained the confidence to speak, lead, and share what we know about protecting children and caring for the environment. We are proud to be part of building a safer and stronger community,” one participant said.
DOLE emphasized that linking government programs with partners and grassroots efforts expands public services while reinforcing systems that safeguard children’s well-being.
The initiative also highlighted the role of women in community development, especially during National Women’s Month, as they remain central to child protection despite challenges in accessing resources.
ChildFund Philippines reaffirmed its commitment to advancing children’s rights and supporting Filipino children to grow up healthy, educated, skilled, and safe.
