The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on Wednesday, Mar. 18, announced that motorists can use the Andaya Highway in Camarines Sur starting Mar. 23 following the completion of initial repairs on a key segment.
DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon said the Sipocot section is ready to ease congestion for motorists heading to the provinces during Holy Week.
“Remember, it’s not just Bicol residents who are passing through here, everyone going to the Visayas, going to Mindanao,” Dizon said in a statement.
He also lauded the agency’s on-time completion of the repairs, adding, “At least we kept our Holy Week timeline to finish the repairs.”
The Andaya Highway, a vital artery linked to the Maharlika Highway, forms part of a 3,370-kilometer road network connecting Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao, supporting seamless inter-island travel.
Motorists and commuters are expected to benefit from faster and safer journeys as the route serves both regional and long-distance travel.
The reopening comes ahead of Holy Week, when many Filipinos travel to their hometowns to observe religious traditions, with Maundy Thursday, Apr. 2, and Good Friday, Apr. 3, declared regular holidays.
