Navotas City lone district Rep. Toby Tiangco stopped short of saying he has finally broken up politically with President Marcos on Tuesday, March 17.
For months now, Tiangco, a member of the House majority, has grown disenchanted with the Marcos administration due to its supposed mishandling of the investigation on the flood control projects corruption scandal.
He noted in a chance interview Tuesday that up to now, no one had been held accountable for the billion-peso mess.
"No, not satisfied. I am disappointed, frustrated, disgusted," Tiangco said of the administration’s inquiry on alleged anomalous flood control projects.
Asked if this has finally caused him to break up with President Marcos, Tiangco leaned forward and said, "Am I still with them?"
"Wala naman akong tinanggap na committee, di ba? Wala naman nakon tinanggap. Sabi ko nga, alam mo, lahat naman ang stand ko dito is, basta hindi ako masi-sway ng pro-BBM (Bongbong Marcos), hindi ako masi-sway ng pro-DDS (Duterte Diehard Supporter). Hindi ako masi-sway ng kahit sino," he said.
(I didn’t accept any committee, right? I didn’t accept anything. As I said, you know, my stand here is that I won’t be swayed by the pro-BBM, I won’t be swayed by the pro-DDS. I won’t be swayed by anyone.)
"Basta kung ano yung tingin kong tama, yun ang gagawin. Kaya nga di ba, di ako tumanggap ng committee? Wala naman akong partido, so wala akong susundin kung di yung sarili ko (As long as I believe something is right, that’s what I will do. That’s why, remember, I didn’t accept any committee? I don’t belong to any party, so I won’t follow anyone but myself)," noted Tiangco.
But when asked to categorically confirm that he was no longer allied with Marcos, the Navotas solon couldn't give a direct answer.
"Basta kung ano yung tama, susuportahan ko, di ba? I mean, hindi na to tungkol sa politika eh. It's about what I have to do na para maging maayos hindi lang yung crisis kung hindi lahat ng bagay, no," he said.
(As long as it’s what’s right, I will support it, right? I mean, this is no longer about politics. It’s about what I have to do to make things better, not just the crisis, but everything.)
Majority members are given plum committee memberships or chairmanships by the House leadership, depending on the allocation of their political parties.
