Senior citizen killed after being hit by wayward truck in Antipolo

A 76-year-old senior citizen died after he was hit by a wayward container truck along Marcos Highway in Barangay Mayamot, Antipolo City, on Sunday, March 15.

According to the Antipolo City Police, the truck driver stopped by the side of the road after noticing that the vehicle's brakes had become weak.

After inspecting the truck, his passenger removed the stopper on its wheel, causing the vehicle to speed up uncontrollably while going down the road and hit the victim, who was on his way home from church.

He was declared dead on the spot after sustaining fatal head injuries.

The truck had also crashed into two parked motorcycles and two buildings, injuring the truck driver. He was quickly brought to the hospital and is now in stable condition.

The victim's wife said they will no longer file charges against the truck driver after he promised to pay for the damages and provide financial assistance to the family of the deceased.
