A PUV driver speaks out about meager earnings despite the ₱15 fare increase.
DAGUPAN CITY – A Public Utility Driver here on Tuesday expressed deep concern over his livelihood, saying he is now unsure to continue working as rising fuel costs continue to reduce his earnings.
The driver said the increase in the minimum jeepney fare from ₱13 to ₱15 effective Thursday will not bring the relief he and many of his colleagues hoped for.
He revealed that daily expenses such as fuel, boundary, and maintenance continue to rise, leaving little to no profit at the end of the day.
“Parang wala pa rin kaming kinikita. Hindi ko na alam kung magpapatuloy pa ako (We are not earning anymore. Don’t know if I can continue driving),” he said.
Commuters have begun to feel the impact of the fare increase. Some passengers voluntarily gave P15 minimum to help some drivers.
Transport groups and authorities here have yet to release possible additional measures to support drivers amid the fuel crisis.
