CEBU CITY – Amid the ongoing investigation into a supposed kidnapping incident, the mayor of Tagbilaran City, Bohol assured that the city remains safe and peaceful.
Mayor Jane Yap said the city’s peace and order situation was not affected by the March 11 incident where a man was forced to ride a van outside a public market in Barangay Dao.
“I’d like to put it on record that there is no blotter report or missing person report related to that incident. I’m just happy that no one is reported missing or someone got murdered,” Yap said.
Yap has called on the Police Regional Office-Central Visayas and Bohol Provincial Police Office to dig deeper into the incident.
Yap refused to comment on theories that the footage of the supposed video of the kidnapping was for mere social media content.
“There are doubts but it would irrespinsible to say these doubts without evidence. We cannot interpret theories as it may lead to wrong information,” Yap said.
As part of the continuing investigation, Police Lt. Col. John Kareen Escober has been relieved as chief of the Tagbilaran police with four other police officers.
“The relief was to give way for a deeper investigation," said Yap.
Yap reiterated that the city remains safe and measures are in place in case of emergencies.
“I can assure you that there’s nothing to worry about. We have CCTV cameras, we have a very responsive 911 unit. If there are emergencies, we are here ready to respond,” Yap said.
