'Love, Marina' show at Tesoros is a visual narrative of a family's creative lineage
In December 2025, author and educator Vicky Veloso-Barrera released “Love, Marina,” a book written as a tribute and love letter to her late grandmother, the renowned designer Marina Reyes Antonio. More than a fashion memoir, the book gathers stories behind the wedding gowns Marina created for generations of brides. It also shares her personal wisdom on gardening, recipes, and practical advice on caring for garments, revealing the many facets of a woman whose creativity extended far beyond the atelier.

The book also traces how Marina’s legacy shaped her family. Her values, artistry, and meticulous attention to craft were passed down to her children and grandchildren, producing a lineage of creatives that includes writers, designers, and educators. Through their work, Marina’s influence continues to evolve across generations.

This enduring legacy was celebrated in a grand gathering on March 3, 2026, when Far Eastern University, in partnership with Tesoros, mounted a special book talk and fashion presentation for "Love, Marina," at Tesoros Makati. The intimate gathering brought together family, friends, students, and fashion enthusiasts to honor Marina’s life and the generations she inspired.
The highlight of the event was a fashion presentation featuring designs from four generations of the family, beginning with archival pieces by Marina herself. The show offered a rare glimpse into how design sensibilities shift and develop across time, while remaining rooted in the same tradition of craftsmanship.
Second-generation designer Malu Veloso brought romance and femininity to life through lace, embroidery, and intricate beadwork. Her creations moved gracefully between pastel tones and vibrant hues, rendered in classic silhouettes and figure-flattering styles that reflected elegance and refinement.
Letlet Veloso, representing the third generation, introduced a bold sense of imagination to formal wear. Known for her adventurous use of embellishment and striking color palettes, she offered edgier interpretations of Filipiniana. Her silhouettes balanced heritage with contemporary sophistication, demonstrating how tradition can be reimagined for modern audiences.
Representing the fourth generation, Hannah Barrera explored the sculptural possibilities of haute couture. Drawing inspiration from the innovative classicism of great European designers, she presented couture pieces distinguished by architectural structure, artistry, and a distinctly modern signature.
Together, the presentation became more than a fashion show. It was a visual narrative of a family’s creative lineage, illustrating how Marina’s influence continues to shape the aesthetic language of the next generation. Each designer carried a piece of her philosophy, whether through craftsmanship, attention to detail, or a deep respect for tradition.
