Gunmen fail in assassination try on Midsayap town councilor
MIDSAYAP, North Cotabato – Police are hunting two men who attempted but failed to assassinate a municipal councilor from the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) on Monday.
Police Capt. Sammy Clarito, deputy police chief of Midsayap, said Tuesday investigators are reviewing CCTV footage that captured the facial features of one of the two men who shot Councilor Al-Hamidie Mohamad, 42, a member of the Sangguniang Bayan of Nabalawag, one of the towns in the BARMM Special Geographic Area.
Clarito said Mohamad had just arrived in front of a hardware store and was about to step out of his Toyota Fortuner when one of two men riding tandem on a motorbike arrived and opened fire before fleeing.
Police recovered nine empty shells for a caliber. 45 pistol in the crime scene on the national highway in Barangay Poblacion 8, Midsayap, North Cotabato.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Mohamad, the No. 1 town councilor, said he has no known enemies, explaining why he has no police escort. (PNA)
