Former Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco pledged to support Filipino workers and communities as she takes on her new post as Presidential Adviser for Sustainable and Resilient Communities.
On Thursday, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. appointed Frasco to strengthen and implement key national programs at the community level.
In a statement, Frasco said her appointment will focus on coordinating key government programs, enhancing community resilience, and promoting sustainable local development.
“I carry this experience with deep gratitude for the workers, communities, and partners across the tourism sector whose dedication sustains our nation,” Frasco said.
She cited her nearly four years at the DOT.
During her time as tourism chief, she helped sustain millions of jobs and promoted Filipino culture and innovation.
She also worked with government partners, local communities, and the private sector to strengthen the tourism economy.
“I look forward to supporting the Administration’s efforts to strengthen the resilience and sustainability of communities across the Philippines,” she added.
Frasco emphasized that strong collaboration between government agencies, local governments, and communities is crucial, noting that supporting enterprises and livelihoods while highlighting Filipino culture remains central to building resilient communities.
Her appointment comes as the country faces disruptions from climate-related hazards.
Frasco is expected to lead initiatives that balance economic growth with environmental sustainability.
In the past, some of Frasco’s DOT campaigns, including the scrapped “Love the Philippines” initiative, drew online criticism.
Some promotions also featured her face rather than destinations, though the agency maintains that its strategies remain effective based on internal data.
