The Philippine embassy in Abu Dhabi on Monday, March 16, confirmed reports of two Filipinos who were among those arrested in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for sharing videos of an Iranian attack and its interception in the Gulf state.
The embassy said UAE authorities verified the reports and provided information on the identities of the Filipinos, who are overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and circumstances of their arrest.
The embassy is now also aware of their whereabouts.
It said it has been in communication with the families of the affected OFWs to provide timely updates and support.
Legal assistance is also being extended through the embassy’s retained legal counsel;
“A request has been submitted to the relevant UAE authorities for a consular visit to the arrested nationals, subject to approval by the competent authorities,” it said
