ILOILO CITY – Metro Pacific Iloilo Water (MPIW), the joint venture between State-owned Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD) and Metro Pacific Water (MPC), assured customers in Metro Iloilo that there will be no immediate water rate increase due to the rising cost of fuel from the Middle East war.
Customers in Iloilo City as well as the towns of Oton, Santa Barbara, Cabatuan, Maasin, San Miguel, Pavia, and Leganes will still pay the same rate, the MPIW said.
“Our operations will continue as they are, and we will endeavor to improve even if we are at loss in operation due to the rising fuel increase,” said MPIW Chief Operating Officer Angelo David C. Berba.
While MPIW is a public water utility, Berba said that MPIW still relies on fuel for its operations, including running the system from its bulk water supplier and water tankers.
MPIW, as a public water utility, cannot immediately implement price increases due to strict government regulations, including submission of proposed water hike rate to the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) and a public hearing.
