President Marcos has encouraged newly-promoted teachers in Cebu to continue being an example to educators around the world and teach with skill and compassion.
"I encourage everyone to continue serving as an example to educators around the world. Lead with empathy. Teach with skill and compassion. Live with integrity," Marcos told the over 3,000 teachers who took their oath on Monday, March 16.
"Nasa inyong mga kamay hinuhubog ang mga susunod na lider: ang ating mga siyentista, mga doktor, mga manggagawa, at lingkod-bayan ng ating bansa (The future leaders are shaped in your hands: our scientists, doctors, workers, and public servants of our country)," Marcos added.
The President further urged teachers to guide the youth "as they continue to learn more about themselves, as they expand their horizons, and they reach their fullest potential."
A total of 3,325 newly-promoted teachers and school heads from 44 municipalities in Cebu Province took their oath in a ceremony held in Cebu City on Monday afternoon.
The ceremony is part of the Department of Education's (DepEd) Expanded Career Progression (ECP) system, which aims to promote 100,000 teachers nationwide this year.
Marcos expressed hopes that the promotion would help improve the teachers' and their families' lives.
According to the President, for years, public school teachers faced limited promotion opportunities and unclear career pathways, with many taking at least 10 to 20 years to progress from being Teacher I to Teacher III, and an equally long period to move from Teacher III to Master Teacher I.
Under the ECP program, however, the President said teachers are now offered clearer pathways for professional growth, allowing them to choose between two distinct career tracks—classroom teaching or school administration.
The program also created new positions, including Teacher IV to VII, Master Teacher V to VI, and School Principal V, providing educators with more opportunities for career advancement.
Learning continuity space
While in Cebu, Marcos also led the turnover and inspection of the Learning Continuity Space (LCS) in Cebu as part of government initiatives to support learning continuity following last year’s earthquake.
The facility was established to ensure that students could continue their learning activities despite the calamities.
The modular classrooms, costing approximately P1.65 million each, were designed to protect students and teachers and can withstand extraordinary conditions. Each LCS can accommodate 40 students.
The LCS is equipped with a solar power supply, an Internet connection, and a comfort room in every unit.
Aside from inspecting the LCS at the Marcelo B. Fernan-Polambato Elementary School, Marcos also led the rollout of the YAKAP at Kalinga Caravan during the visit.
The initiatives support learning continuity and provide primary healthcare services to students, teachers, and the local community.
