Russian tourist, lifeguard drown in Boracay

ILOILO CITY – A Russian tourist and a lifeguard drowned at world-famous Boracay Island in Malay town, Aklan province on Wednesday, March 11.
Lawmen have yet to confirm the incident but the Malay Municipal Council hailed lifeguard Rex Pablo Aguirre of Barangay Yapak.
The incident occurred on Wednesday morning.
Aguirre rescued the unidentified Russian tourist who was swept away to open sea while swimming at the secluded Yapak Beach.
Aguirre was also swept away by the strong current and his body was recovered late Wednesday evening.
Barangay officials said that Aguirre was not wearing a life vest and was in a hurry to rescue the tourist.
The Russian was rescued by the Philippine Coast Guard but died in a hospital.
