A minor strombolian eruption was observed at Mayon Volcano on Sunday morning, March 15, as the volcano’s ongoing effusive eruption entered its 69th consecutive day, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
In an advisory, the agency said the activity occurred from 9:49 a.m. to 9:55 a.m., producing bursts of incandescent material from the crater.
The agency noted that the volcano continues to generate incandescent lava flows, pyroclastic density currents (PDCs) locally known as “uson,” and rockfalls as part of its sustained effusive eruption.
Mayon remains under Alert Level 3, Phivolcs said.
Authorities reiterated that entry into the six-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) must remain strictly prohibited due to the continued threat of lava flows, PDCs, rockfalls, and other volcanic hazards.
Also, Phivolcs urged communities near the volcano to remain vigilant against possible sudden explosive activity and the continued movement of volcanic materials on the slopes of Mayon.
