PLDT leaned on its rock-solid defense to fend off Choco Mucho, 23-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-19, and tighten its hold on the top spot in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference at the Filoil Centre in San Juan City on Saturday, March 14.
The High Speed Hitters, already assured of an automatic spot in the next phase, bucked a slow start and regrouped in the succeeding frames with timely blocks and disciplined floor defense that frustrated the Flying Titans’ attackers.
So solid was PLDT’s defense that it managed 12 blocks, more than half of Choco Mucho.
PLDT’s victory not only pulled them away from the field with a 7-1 win-loss record, but also extended its winning run to four games.
Savi Davison lived up to expectations with a dominant showing at the net, scoring all of her 19 points on attacks, while Kianna Dy turned in an all-around performance with 12 kills and five blocks to finish with 17 points.
Taking charge of the floor were Kath Arado, who had 14 of the team’s 37 digs.
“We know how strong Choco Mucho is on their offense, so we just adjusted to their wingers para mahuli namin,” said Dy.
“We started slow, but eventually we got the rhythm,” she added.
Choco Mucho absorbed its second straight loss to slip at 3-5, despite the 23-point explosion of Sisi Rondina. Kat Tolentino also added 15 points, to no avail.
Eya Laure came off the bench and was held to only four points.
