The Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Saturday, March 14, suspended the driver’s license and issued a show cause order (SCO) to a lady driver involved in a now-viral physical altercation with a male motorcycle rider in Pasig City.
Based on the LTO’s investigation, the lady driver was driving a Honda City which bumped the rear left filter box of a Skygo motorcycle driven by the male rider, causing the latter to swerve and fall down in Barangay Sta. Lucia, Pasig City.
The lady driver, accompanied by another female passenger, argued with the male rider which eventually turned into a physical altercation. The incident was caught in a video that has since gone viral on social media.
Under the SCO, the registered owner and driver of the Honda City were required to appear before the Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID) of the LTO at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 16.
She was instructed to submit an explanation why she should not be held administratively liable for reckless driving (under Sec. 54 of Republic Act 4136 or Land Transportation and Traffic Code), obstruction of traffic (under Section 54 of RA 4136), and for being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle (under Section 27.a of RA 4136 as amended by Sec. 7 of Batas Pambansa Bilang 398).
The LTO clarified that failure to attend the hearing or submit a sworn explanation will allow the agency to proceed “and complete the investigation in its absence and render a recommendation based on available records at hand.”
The SCO also cited the lady driver’s obscene hand gesture when she allegedly raised her middle finger toward the male rider.
In the interim, the LTO has placed the Honda City “under alarm” while the investigation is ongoing.
The driver’s license of the lady driver has also been subjected to a 90-day preventive suspension by the LTO, and it must be surrendered immediately to the agency.
