Karl Eldrew Yulo made his presence known in the senior level after capturing the floor exercise gold medal in the Antalya leg of the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup Series in Turkey on Saturday, March 14.
Performing with a degree of difficulty of 5.3, the 18-year-old Yulo turned heads and scored 8.800 on execution -- the highest in the final -- to finish with a 14.100 total for his first-ever gold medal in the senior division.
It was a far cry from his 13.666 performance in the qualifications on Thursday, March 12, where he placed fourth.
He outshone Ireland’s Eamon Montgomery (13.833) and 2020 Tokyo Olympics silver winner Rayderley Zapata of Spain (13.333), who finished with the silver and bronze medals, respectively.
The competition marked Yulo’s second stint in the senior level after competing in the Baku leg in Azerbaijan last week.
