After headlining the Metro Manila Film Festival entry "Unmarry" last December, Zanjoe Marudo and Angelica Panganiban are sharing the screen once again, this time in a much darker and more intense project.

Viewers will get to see them in the upcoming series "The Silent Noise", which premieres exclusively on Prime Video on March 20. Zanjoe and Angelica attended the Blue Carpet Celebrity Premiere and Grand Media Conference last Tuesday together with their co-stars at Gateway Mall 2 in Quezon City.

The cast members included KD Omalin, Zaijian Jaranilla,Ralph Malibunas, Kakki Teodoro, Joel Saracho, Junjun Quintana, Monching Gutierrez, Karina Bautista, Tommy Alejandrino, Joem Bascon, and Mutya Orquia, among others.

"I think ito yung pinaka-seryoso or darkest siguro na ginawa namin. (This is the most serious or darkest project that Zanjoe and I have made together),” Angelica observed.

Zanjoe agreed, adding that the Prime Video project marks a significant shift from the genres he and Angelica explored together. However, he noted that their history of working together has enabled them to approach emotionally demanding scenes with ease.

“Iba na naman ito. Sa dami ng pinagdaanan namin - from light, to romance, to comedy, to gag show. Magaling itong project na ito para sa amin. Kasi mas nati-test pa namin yung isa't isa. Gaya nga na sinabi ni Angelica kanina na hindi na kami yung tipo na nangangapa pa sa paggawa ng scene. Sa isang bitaw na tone ng boses niya, parang alam ko na kung paano ko sasabayan sa boses ko. Alam niya na paano ang delivery ko. (This is something different again. With everything we’ve gone through - from light projects to romance, to comedy, to gag shows. This project is really good for us because it tests us even more. Like what Angelica said earlier, we’re no longer the type who still have to feel our way through a scene. With just one tone of her voice, I already know how I should match it with mine. She knows how I deliver my lines)," he said.

Despite the sense of familiarity, Zanjoe admits that "The Silent Noise" presented new acting challenges.

“Dito mas na-challenge kami dahil mas malalim yung problema. Mas malalim yung pinagdadaanan ng karakter ko. Dito lang sa show na 'to, parang nakakita si Angge na humingi ako ng tulong. Pagka napapansin niya ako na hindi ako comfortable, pag mahirap yung mga next na gagawin, sabi niya: o ano, throw lines?. (This challenged us more because the problem is deeper. My character is going through something much heavier. It’s only in this show that Angge saw me ask for help. When she notices that I’m not comfortable, especially when the next scenes are difficult, she says, ‘So, what do you think? Want to throw lines?’)," Zanjoe shared.

For her part, Angelica observed that having worked with Zanjoe on a few projects on TV and the movies has given them a comfort level to work through demanding scenes as a "team."

In "The Silent Noise," the characters played by Zanjoe and Angelica are the parents of a deaf child, portrayed by KD Omalin. The plot of having a hearing-impaired kid added another layer of emotional complexity to the series, but rather than viewing the role as daunting, Angelica said they tried to approach the challenge with positivity.

“Siguro sa amin, dahil nga masayahin kaming tao, hindi namin siya tinitingnan negatively, or hindi namin tinitingnan, ‘Oh my God, ang hirap nito,’ hindi ganun. (Maybe for us, because we’re naturally cheerful people, we don’t look at it negatively or think, ‘Oh my God, this is so difficult.’ It’s not like that for us)," she said.

"Nagbibilangan kami, halimbawa, ng sign language, sa isang araw, ganun. Kung sino ang nagba-buckle sa sign language. Ginagawa naming magaan yung mga trabaho namin dahil mabigat siya and medyo may pagkadark nga siya. Kaya hindi kami puwedeng magpalamon doon sa mga hirap na challenges na ibinibigay sa amin araw-araw. (We would count, for example, how many sign language gestures we could do in a day, like who could get better at sign language. We try to make our work lighter because the story is heavy and a bit dark. That’s why we can’t let ourselves get swallowed by the difficult challenges that come to us every day)," Angelica added.

To highlight inclusivity, members of the Filipino Sign Language (FSL) community were invited to the premiere in recognition of KD’s role as Eli, and the entire event was interpreted for the FSL audience.

"The Silent Noise" follows a family unraveling under the weight of secrets, where silence offers no protection. When tragedy strikes, long-buried suspicions resurface, testing relationships and forcing each member to confront truths they have avoided for years.

Two episodes will be released initially on Prime Video, with new episodes dropping weekly in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.
