Nearly two-thirds of Filipino adults support the passage of a law prohibiting political dynasties in the country, based on the latest Pulse Asia nationwide survey released on Friday, March 13.
Results of the 1st Quarter 2026 “Ulat ng Bayan” survey, conducted from Feb. 27 to March 2, showed that 64 percent of Filipino adults agree with passing legislation that would ban political dynasties in the Philippine political arena.
Meanwhile, 17 percent of respondents disagreed with the proposal, while 19 percent said they were undecided.
Pulse Asia found that majority support for a legislative ban on political dynasties was recorded in several areas and socioeconomic groups, including Metro Manila (69 percent), the rest of Luzon (74 percent), and the Visayas (73 percent).
The proposal was also supported by 70 percent of respondents from Class ABC (upper-to-middle class) and 66 percent from Class D (“masa”).
However, in Mindanao, opinion was more divided, with 32 percent agreeing, 39 percent disagreeing, and 29 percent undecided.
Among respondents from Class E (the poor), the survey found nearly equal levels of agreement and disagreement, with 36 percent supporting the ban and 41 percent opposing it.
Pulse Asia also noted that among those who either support or remain undecided about banning political dynasties, 76 percent said the prohibition should apply to both national and local elective positions.
Meanwhile, 13 percent said the ban should apply only to local government positions, while 11 percent preferred that it cover only national elective posts.
The survey also showed strong support for limiting how relatives can hold government positions.
About 69 percent of respondents said relatives should be prohibited from holding the same local government post consecutively, while 23 percent were undecided and 8 percent opposed the proposal.
A similar 69 percent favored banning relatives from holding the same national government post consecutively, with 22 percent undecided and 9 percent disagreeing.
Support was also recorded for prohibiting relatives from holding positions simultaneously, with 70 percent backing a ban on relatives occupying both national and local government posts at the same time.
Meanwhile, 20 percent were undecided and 10 percent opposed the measure.
For local government positions specifically, 67 percent supported banning relatives from holding posts simultaneously, while 25 percent were undecided and 8 percent disagreed.
Meanwhile, 72 percent supported prohibiting relatives from simultaneously holding national elective positions, with 20 percent undecided and 8 percent opposed.
The survey also found that 70 percent support a proposal to limit the number of family members running in an election to two, with one seeking a national position and another a local post. About 21 percent said they were undecided, while 9 percent disagreed.
Pulse Asia’s survey fieldwork was conducted through face-to-face interviews with 1,200 adults aged 18 and above nationwide.
It has a ±2.8 percent margin of error at the 95 percent confidence level.
Subnational estimates for geographic areas have a ±5.7 percent margin of error for Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao.
Pulse Asia said its Ulat ng Bayan surveys are conducted independently and are not commissioned by any single party.
