LTFRB names Mayor Joy 'Outstanding Woman in Public Transportation'
Mayor Joy Belmonte has been recognized as the "Outstanding Woman in Public Transportation – Local Government Leader" by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).
The award was presented on Monday, March 9, as part of National Women’s Month activities that recognize the contributions of women leaders across various sectors and their roles in promoting gender equality and inclusive development.
The recognition highlights the city mayor’s leadership in advancing safe, inclusive, and gender-responsive urban mobility initiatives particularly programs aimed at improving commuter safety and accessibility in the city’s public transportation system.
In its citation, the LTFRB commended the mayor’s steadfast leadership in promoting policies and initiatives that prioritize the safety and welfare of commuters, especially women and other vulnerable groups.
“Your administration’s commitment to institutionalizing policies that strengthen women’s safety in public spaces, enhancing commuter protection mechanisms, and supporting programs that empower women in governance and public service has set a strong example of local leadership aligned with national gender and development goals,” the agency said.
The transport regulator also noted that Mayor Belmonte’s initiatives underscore the crucial role of women policymakers in shaping transportation systems that respond to the needs of all commuters.
“Your exemplary work affirms the vital role of women policymakers in shaping transportation systems that are responsive to the needs of all, especially women and other vulnerable sectors,” the citation added.
