LAOAG CITY – To assist tricycle drivers impacted by rising fuel prices, the Ilocos Norte provincial government continues to support the transport group by distributing P2,500 in cash aid along with family food packs containing various groceries.
On Friday, 929 eligible beneficiaries received cash aid in the towns of Sarrat, Dingras, and Nueva Era.
During the distribution led by Gov. Cecilia Araneta-Marcos, she assured the most affected transport groups that the provincial government is handling the situation and prioritizing the needs of the most vulnerable sector.
“The fuel assistance program for the public transport sector continues, and we shall maintain it to cope with rising fuel costs," said Marcos who expressed hope that the war in the Middle East would end soon. “Let’s pray that the war will end soon, but we still need to prepare for the worst,” she added.
To provide immediate relief to the most affected sectors, the provincial government has been contacting various towns and cities to ensure the ongoing distribution of cash assistance and food supplies.
There are around 14,000 tricycle operators and drivers in the entire province eligible for the continuing cash assistance program, but some are still in the process of submitting their documentary requirements, pending the distribution of their payrolls.
On behalf of the beneficiaries, Nueva Era Mayor Aldrin Garvida thanked the provincial government for the continuing distribution of the fuel subsidy program.
“This meaningful support strengthens the resilience of our residents, particularly those whose hard work contributes to the growth and development of the municipality,” Garvida said in a statement on Friday.
The provincial government has increased efforts to focus on programs that reduce the province’s reliance on fossil fuels.
On March 16, the provincial government will launch its first solar rooftop project, a partnership with the private sector to make solar energy more accessible and affordable for Ilocano families and businesses through a pilot rooftop and net-metering program. (PNA)
