Grab, Move It add incentives to cushion fuel price shock

Grab Philippines and its motorcycle taxi subsidiary Move It are deploying a support program for driver and delivery partners as domestic pump prices reach record levels triggered by escalating Middle East tensions and global supply volatility.
With diesel prices climbing by double digits in a single week and gasoline marking its ninth consecutive weekly increase, Grab Philippines said it platforms are introducing a multi-layered strategy focused on fuel rebates and earnings protection.
Grab Philippines said the move aims to prevent driver attrition, which often occurs when operating costs outpace take-home pay, threatening the reliability of urban ride-hailing and delivery networks.
“Our immediate priority is to help ensure that our drivers continue to earn viably and fairly for their families, while preserving service reliability,” Ronald Roda, Grab Philippines ' managing director, said.
He noted that the support is critical as more Filipino families may pivot to shared mobility to mitigate the impact of the oil shock on private vehicle use.
According to Grab Philippines, the relief package is built on three specific pillars. First, the platforms have secured industry partnerships with fuel providers, including Seaoil, Caltex, and Blu Energy, allowing partners to access savings of up to ₱4 per liter.
Additionally, Grab Finance is launching a targeted rebate via the Shell Fuel Card for approximately 20,000 eligible participants. From March 16 through the end of the month, qualifying drivers will receive a ₱3 per-liter rebate credited directly to their accounts.
Second, the companies are adjusting incentive structures to safeguard margins. GrabCar drivers will receive commission rebates designed to stabilize earnings during high-demand periods.
For GrabFood delivery riders, the company is piloting a ₱3 “Spot Bonus” per completed delivery nationwide.
Move It has also launched “Power Pasada,” a dedicated resilience program for the two-wheel sector that includes monthly fuel top-ups and peak-period incentives.
The third pillar involves active coordination with the Department of Transportation and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board.
The government recently signaled that transport network vehicle service (TNVS) professionals are eligible for a ₱5,000 fuel subsidy distributed via the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
United Transportation Coalition Philippines President Lisza Buscaino-Redulla welcomed the inclusion of TNVS professionals in government aid, noting that support programs must remain calibrated to market movements.
Grab and Move It stated they will continue to monitor global oil prices and are prepared to adjust these measures as economic conditions evolve.
